Words from ASM Chairman

I attended the first Annual Scientific Meeting in 2000 as a junior doctor. Since then the ASM has grown from strength to strength, with wide ranging topics covering the entire breadth of medicine. Each year, I come away having gained new insights and perspectives for my daily practice of emergency medicine.

We are now getting in gear for the 7th ASM, to be held from 3rd to 4th March 2006. This year, we aim to take a fresh look at emergency medicine, with various symposia catering to the emergency medicine trainees, our fellow frontline colleagues, the family medicine practitioners, as well as our comrades-in-arms, the nurses and paramedics.

We have invited Professor Colin Robertson, who was our keynote speaker for the 3rd ASM in 2002 to return as our keynote speaker this year. Prof Robertson has been involved in cardiac arrest research for over 20 years.

Following the International Consensus on Emergency Cardiac Care & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) conference in Jan 2005, new ECC and CPR guidelines are being prepared for publication in Dec 2005 in Circulation and Resuscitation.

SEMS and the National Resuscitation Council will be co-organising a 1-day post conference symposium on 5th March 2005, presenting the latest evidence in cardiovascular resuscitation.

The SEMS ASM is not just about keeping current, but continually pushing the envelope. It is thus my humble privilege to invite you to join us in moving.
