FOREWORD BY DR. EILLYNE SEOW

2004 was an exciting year for SEMS. We won the bid to host the 13th International Conference on Emergency Medicine (ICEM) in 2010. This will be the first time that this event will be held in Asia.

The 6th Annual Scientific Meeting in March 2005 was organised by Dr. Rabind Charles and his team, and saw the biggest turnout of participants so far.

3 new awards were also introduced: Prof. Anantharaman sponsored the prize for the best faculty speaker, Dr. Goh Siang Hiong the photo competition and Dr Eillyne Seow gave away a bottle of wine to the winner of the slide quiz for basic trainees. The winners were Drs. Tham Kum Ying, Benjamin Leong and Raymond Fong respectively.

In addition, the inaugural Advanced Hazmat Life Support Course was organised by the Chairman of SEMS’s Educational Committee. This could not have been financially viable without the generous contribution of Dr. Stephen Borron as Chief Instructor. He was also our keynote speaker at this year’s ASM.

Planning has already started for the 7th Annual Scientific Meeting to be held on 3rd and 4th March 2006. The organising chair is Dr. Benjamin Leong while Dr. Foo Chik Loon is scientific chair. They are presently in the process of forming the rest of their team.

The Educational Committee led by Dr. Mark Leong has an exciting programme planned for the months ahead. Mark will also be recruiting members to be part of SEMS’s educational efforts.

This year, SEMS will carry out a recruitment drive and we invite all who are interested in emergency care to join us.

The Annual General Meeting was held on 15th April 2005. The new management committee was voted in and is as follows:
